Juventus to dent Roma’s Champions League hopes

Serie A champions Juventus head south to the Stadio Olimpico to face off with Roma on Sunday night.

Juventus wrapped up the title weeks ago and have continued to pick up points. Last weekend, Juventus earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw against city rivals Torino. Cristiano Ronaldo scored in the 84th minute to give Juventus a share of the spoils.

Ronaldo has scored 21 goals for Juventus this season which has accounted for 30% off their scoring. The Portuguese superstar is gearing up for a summer at the UEFA Nations League finals and will want to end the club season on a high note.

Roma are sixth in Serie A and sit three points behind fourth-place Atalanta in the race for Champions League qualification. The Giallorossi have had a hot and cold season that saw manager Eusebio Di Francesco and sporting director Monchi both leave in midseason.

Manager Claudio Ranieri’s team is undefeated in their last six matches with three of those games ending in victories. Ranieri has corrected the ship, but Roma are looking for a long-term manager to take over in the summer.

Atalanta’s Gian Piero Gasperini, Jose Mourinho, and Chelsea’s Maurizio Sarri are all linked with a move to the capital. However, there are plenty of reasons the three will reject an offer to coach in the Eternal City.

Juventus are undefeated in seven of their last 10 Serie A games against Roma. The Giallorossi have won twice in that time with both victories coming at the Stadio Olimipico.

The last 10 matches in Serie A between the two sides have been low scoring. Seven of their last 10 league meetings have ended in under 2.5 goals scored.

It is worth noting that in Roma’s two wins at home, the teams combined for over 2.5 goals scored.

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri may have Ronaldo in the team, but Juventus are built on a strong defence. The Bianconeri have kept 20 clean sheets this season with 10 of those coming on the road.

The Bianconeri allow just 0.75 goals a game away from the Allianz Stadium. That figure doesn’t bode well for Roma, who have tallied nine goals in their last six league matches.

Roma’s record against Juventus in their last 10 Serie A games isn’t great. The Bianconeri will get the best of their southern rivals on Sunday. Ronaldo and company may have wrapped up the league, but they won’t let Roma take all three points.

Like their last three league games, Roma and Juventus will end with under 2.5 goals scored. Will Ronaldo bag a Juventus goal? He is good value to increase his goals tally.
