Sheffield Wednesday to sign off with win over poor QPR

Sheffield Wednesday will be looking to finish their season off in style and take advantage of a poor travelling QPR outfit at Hillsborough on Sunday by taking all three points and a third home win on the trot.

Overall form has seen a significant improvement for Sheffield Wednesday since manager Steve Bruce took over the reigns back in early February, and since then, The Owls have lost just 2 of their 17 matches that Bruce has been in charge of, and they’ll certainly fancy their chances of taking the spoils against QPR in this encounter.

Sheffield Wednesday’s home form has been very impressive though as The Owls have lost just 1 of their last 13 matches at Hillsborough which, ironically, was a heavy 3-1 loss to Bruce’s former club, Aston Villa, but otherwise, Wednesday have been a very consistent outfit on home turf.

The hosts recorded 8 wins from these last 13 matches and had they not suffered a six-match stretch without a win at home from mid-September to end of November, The Owls could have been challenging for a play-off spot.

By contrast, it’s been a season to forget for QPR who travel up to Yorkshire on Sunday afternoon looking to avoid a fourth defeat on the trot in the Championship following recent defeats to Blackburn Rovers, Derby County and Nottingham Forest.

QPR have had to endure a miserable second half of the season in the Championship as The R’s have managed to scrape just 2 wins from their 20 matches played since the turn of the year, which were wins against Leeds United 1-0 and Swansea City 4-0, both of which were recorded at Loftus Road.

The appointment of former England manager, Steve McClaren, looked a bad move as QPR lost their first four matches of the season which included a heavy 7-1 defeat away at West Brom, but 7 wins from their next 11 matches seemingly had QPR on course for a possible challenge for a play-off spot.

Indeed, by the end of December, QPR were sitting in 9th place in the Championship and were just four points adrift of 6th placed Derby County, but no-one could have predicted the extent of QPR’s sharp decline in form from January onwards.

Therefore, anything other than a Sheffield Wednesday win here would be a surprise.
