Sheffield United to maintain promotion push with win over Millwall

Sheffield United to maintain promotion push with win over Millwall
    12/04/19 2016

Sheffield United were held to a 1-1 draw in midweek away at Birmingham City but Chris Wilder’s side will have considered that a reasonable point in addition to their previous three that they gained with a 1-0 win away at Preston North End last weekend.

Sheffield United return to Bramall Lane this Saturday though when they take on relegation threatened Millwall, and the hosts will be keen to continue their push for a top two finish in the Championship where promotion to the Premier League is guaranteed.

The Blades have lost just once out of their last 13 matches overall in the Championship which was a slightly unexpected 3-2 defeat at home to Bristol City, but having won their previous eight home matches on the trot, United will be confident they can return to winning ways here.

The most impressive aspect of Sheffield United’s recent eight-match winning streak was the fact that Wilder’s side kept a total of seven clean sheets during this excellent sequence, and the hosts have kept 10 clean sheets in total within their 20 home matches to date this season.

Forwards Sharp (23 goals) and McGoldrick (13 goals) are the most likely to notch for The Blades here.

Millwall have given themselves a lifeline in recent matches as The Lions have gained four points from their last two league matches as the visitors have beaten West Brom 2-0 and drawn 0-0 with QPR in their recent two home matches at The Den.

These two results along with a 2-0 win away at Birmingham City have helped lift Neil Harris’s side into 19th place on the Championship ladder, but only two points ahead of third from bottom club, Rotherham United ahead of their difficult looking trip to Sheffield United.

The visitors will therefore be keen to get a result of sorts at Sheffield United this Saturday in order to keep the relegation zone at arms length, but having won just three away matches all season (at Ipswich Town 3-2, Derby County 1-0 and Birmingham City 2-0), it looks highly unlikely that the London club will walk away with all three points in this one.

In addition, Millwall have kept just three clean sheets on their travels all season, and the likes of Sheffield United’s Sharp and McGoldrick could well take full advantage at Bramall Lane on Saturday.
