Ipswich Town v Reading - Match Preview

Ipswich Town v Reading - Match Preview

Another relegation battle is in prospect at Portman Road this Saturday afternoon when bottom club Ipswich Town take on fourth from bottom club, Reading, with a very precious three points at stake for both teams.

Ipswich Town are without a win in the Championship from their last seven matches overall, having lost four of these to Blackburn Rovers, Aston Villa, Sheffield Wednesday and arch-rivals Norwich City, but the hosts have managed to avoid defeat in their last three matches on the trot in the Championship.

The Tractor Boys have picked up points in draws with Derby County, Stoke City and Wigan Athletic, all in 1-1 stalemates, and they may just fancy their chances of getting something here when Reading visit Portman Road this weekend.

With a home record of  W2 D9 L6 scored 16 conceded 22, the form book suggests that  the chances of another draw looks quite likely as Ipswich just can’t seem to find that necessary cutting edge to take all three points.

In the earlier corresponding fixture between these two sides, it ended all square at 2-2 at the Madejski Stadium with the spoils shared.

Reading sit fourth from bottom in the Championship and have so far avoided being dragged down into the bottom three as they’ve edge Rotherham United on goal difference so far this season.

Reading kept it that way last time out with a 1-1 draw against Rotherham and The Royals have lost just once in their last six matches overall in the Championship which was a heavy 4-0 loss away at high-flying Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

Reading have also picked up just one win though during this six match sequence which was a 2-1 home win over Blackburn Rovers, but again, the overriding result for the visitors was the draw which featured o four occasions out of these last six matches.

Stalemates with Bolton Wanderers, Aston Villa, Sheffield Wednesday and Rotherham United have just about kept Reading’s heads above water so far this season, but they too desperately need wins with an away record of  W1 D8 L8 scored 13 conceded 26.

Reading have drawn three of their last five matches on the road, and having failed to score in 8 of their 17 away matches so far this season, this match could well be heading for a dour 0-0 draw.
