Leicester City begin life post-Claude Puel against Brighton

Leicester City begin life post-Claude Puel against Brighton

Leicester City host Brighton on Tuesday night in midweek Premier League action. Leicester go into the match having sacked manager Claude Puel following their 4-1 loss to Crystal Palace on Saturday. The manager had lost the Leicester dressing room some time ago.

Leicester have not won in their last seven games in all competitions with six of those games being losses. Puel had long been rumoured for the sack and it looks likely Leicester will pursue Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers as a replacement.

Brighton did not play over the weekend as their match with Chelsea was postponed due to the latter's Carabao Cup Final game against Manchester City. The Seagulls are just five points off of Leicester. Brighton are still in danger of relegation having won just once in their last 11 games. Seven of those matches ended in defeat.

Chris Hughton’s team is in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup and much of their attention has been on the competition. However, it has led to them playing poorly in the Premier League. Brighton have lost four of their last five league games on the road. They have collected just eight away points from a possible 39.

Leicester have struggled greatly at home all season. The Foxes have lost four straight home matches being outscored 8-2. Just 13 points have been collected from a possible 39, which is the fourth worst in the league. Leicester have posted a –3-goal difference at the King Power Stadium.

The good news for Leicester is they have won seven of their last 17 games against Brighton in all competitions. Four of those victories came at the King Power Stadium. Brighton have won only twice in their last eight trips to Leicester.

The Foxes will be without Daniel Amartey and Marc Albrighton. Both are sidelined with leg injuries. Defender Ben Chilwell could miss out as well as he didn’t feature against Crystal Palace on Saturday. Brighton are without the suspended Florian Andone. However, Hughton could have Glenn Murray and Lewis Dunk back after missing last week’s FA Cup win over Derby with injuries.

Last season, Brighton experienced a similar relegation scare. They were able to stave off trouble by reaching 40 points. Brighton are currently 14 points off that number. A win at the King Power would help them reach their 40-point target once more.

The last six matches between Leicester and Brighton have all featured 2.0 goals or more. Tuesday night’s fixture should be a cagey affair as both teams desperately need points. The Foxes will rebound without Puel in the dugout. The players will be able to play with the freedom they have lacked and get the win over Brighton.
