Sheffield Wednesday v Swansea City - Match Preview

Sheffield Wednesday v Swansea City - Match Preview

Sheffield Wednesday have made a solid if unremarkable start under new manager, Steve Bruce, as The Owls have won once and drawn three matches since his appointment with a 1-0 win away at Ipswich Town along with three stalemates on the trot against Reading, Millwall and Rotherham United.

Overall, Sheffield Wednesday have lost just once in their last 10 matches in the Championship and some credit should be awarded to former caretaker-manager, Steve Agnew, who steadied the ship at Hillsborough following the departure of former manager, Jos Luhukay.

The hosts have been unable to really make an impact on the top half of the Championship though as The Owls have been involved in five draws within these last 10 matches, while they’re unbeaten in their last six at home; again, the draw features prominently with three stalemates within this sequence.

Sheffield Wednesday possess an overall home record of  W5 D7 L3 scored 18 and conceded 19 goals, with perhaps the hosts following a similar path to Bruce’s former club, Aston Villa, who he made hard to beat on home turf but the draws always held them back.

Swansea City sit in the mid-table position of 13th place in the Championship following their recent 2-1 defeat away at Leeds United and Graham Potter’s side make their way up to Yorkshire again this Saturday afternoon to face a solid and stubborn Sheffield Wednesday outfit.

Swansea City have produced mixed results in recent weeks as they’ve picked up wins against 2nd placed Sheffield United and Millwall, but these have been offset by losses to Bristol City and the aforementioned Leeds United.

Both of Swansea’s recent wins were recorded at their Liberty Stadium where they’ve registered 7 of their 12 league wins to date, while away from home, The Swans have been a little more circumspect with a record of  W5 D4 L7 scored 18 and conceded 19 goals.

In addition, the visitors have managed just one win from their last five matches on the road, so Potter will no doubt be keen to shore things up at the back here.

It’s worth mentioning at this point that both Steve Bruce and Graham Potter were former defenders themselves, so a gung-ho, free-scoring match is unlikely to unfold at Hillsborough this afternoon - instead, we could see another stalemate with perhaps a 0-0 or 1-1 score line.
