Millwall v Preston North End - Match Preview

Millwall v Preston North End - Match Preview

Millwall completed back-to-back wins recently when they secured all three points in what seemed an unlikely 1-0 win away at play-off hopefuls Derby County on Wednesday night, and this valuable win followed a 1-0 win away at League One outfit, AFC Wimbledon, in the 5th round of the FA Cup.

Millwall FC manager, Neil Harris, will have been particularly delighted with his team’s win at Derby County as The Lions now have a five point cushion over the bottom three ahead of this weekend’s action, and the visit of Preston North End to the New Den this Saturday.

The hosts have certainly tightened up in recent weeks in the Championship as they’ve lost just once in their last six matches overall which was a 2-0 loss to Blackburn Rovers, but Millwall have lost on just four occasions on home turf so far this season.

As Millwall have managed just six wins at the New Denb to date though, it may be worth a look at the goals markets here, and having seen both teams score in 9 of their 16 home matches to date, this looks an interesting angle for this clash.

Preston NE sit mid-table in 11th place in the Championship and extended their unbeaten run in the second tier to seven matches when they drew 0-0 with Nottingham Forest at Deepdale last weekend.

Recent wins over QPR, Stoke City, Bolton Wanderers and most impressive of all, a 3-1 home win over Norwich City have given Alex Neil’s side reason to believe in a possible play-off spot come May, but they’ll need to continue picking up points particularly away from home.

The visitors have lost just three league matches at Deepdale this season but they’ll be keen to further improve upon an away record which stands at W5 D3 L8 scored 18, conceded 24 when they make their way down to London to face Millwall.

Preston have won their last three away matches on the trot while 7 of their 16 matches on their travels have seen both teams score. However, it should be noted that Preston started the season in horrific fashion, losing their first five away matches on the trot (the first four being to nil), so they’ve picked up since.

The visitors have scored in 10 of their subsequent 12 away matches and should find the net again on Saturday, thus making the both teams to score option look very attractive.
