Brentford were sent crashing out of the 5th round of the FA Cup by fellow Championship outfit, Swansea City, last weekend in a heavy 4-1 defeat away at the Liberty Stadium, but The Bees return to more familiar surroundings at Griffin Park this Saturday where they’ll be seeking to record a fourth league win on the trot.
Despite their recent thrashing in the cup, Brentford will still be confident of taking something from this upcoming clash against Hull City as the hosts have won four of their last five matches overall, along with four wins from their last five matches on home turf too.
Following a mini slump which saw Brentford lose three on the bounce at home to Middlesbrough, Sheffield United and Swansea City, the hosts have responded well with recent wins against Bolton Wanderers, Stoke City, Blackburn Rovers and most satisfying of all, a 1-0 win over Aston Villa as they sent their former manager, Dean Smith, with his tail between his legs.
Brentford FC possess a pretty steady record at Griffin Park which stands at W9 D3 L4, scored 32, conceded 18 as well as failing to score just once at home all season. The hosts have scored 2 goals or more in 10 of their 16 home matches to date which perhaps is no surprise with forwards Maupay (18 goals) and Watkins (9 goals) up front.
Hull City promised so much just a few weeks ago as The Tigers produced an impressive 10-match unbeaten sequence which spanned late November through to mid-January and also included an excellent six-match winning streak, scoring a total of 18 goals and conceding just 3 goals in reply during this six-game period.
However, it seems to be a case of ‘boom or bust’ for Hull as they’ve since managed just one win from their last five matches in the Championship which was a 2-0 home win over a floundering Stoke City outfit at their KCOM Stadium.
Defeats away from home at Blackburn Rovers and Derby County, both by 2-0 margins along with draws at Aston Villa and at home with relegation candidates Rotherham United have seen Hull’s previously prosperous bubble now well and truly burst.
The visitors have now gone three matches without a win on their travels which includes back-to-back losses at the aforementioned Blackburn Rovers and Derby County, and a third loss on the trot looks on the cards at Griffin Park this Saturday too.
