Reading v Blackburn Rovers - Match Preview

Reading v Blackburn Rovers - Match Preview

Reading will be desperately hoping they can make the most of their return to the Madejski Stadium on Wednesday night when they face a Blackburn Rovers outfit who have suffered back-to-back defeats in recent times.

With poor travelling Rotherham United having to go to Hull City who have won their last five home matches on the trot in the Championship, Reading know they have an opportunity to lift themselves out of the bottom three with a win tonight.

New manager, Jose Gomes has certainly tightened things up considerably at Reading as The Royals have drawn their last three matches on the trot with useful points gained against Bolton Wanderers and Sheffield Wednesday (away) as well as holding Aston Villa to a draw at the Madejski Stadium.

Reading have also shown character by bouncing back from a three-match losing streak to Sheffield United, Middlesbrough and Swansea City by taking all three points in a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

Forward Meite (6 goals) looks likely to get the nod to start up front here as Gomes has steadied the ship and will now look to build upon this with a win on Wednesday night.

Blackburn Rovers have dropped down to a disappointing 13th place in the Championship following back-to-back defeats to Brentford 5-2 and a 1-0 home loss to in-form Bristol City.

Blackburn are probably still wondering how they let a 2-goal lead slip against Brentford and end up losing 5-2 at Griffin Park, and manager Tony Mowbray now needs to rally his troops as Rovers are in danger of undoing all the great work they did in January.

Blackburn seemed to be on the up in the Championship as they’d strung together an impressive four-match winning streak which included wins over West Brom, Millwall, Ipswich Town and Hull City which lifted them to within almost touching distance of the play-off pack.

However, the two aforementioned defeats has put paid to that for the time being as the visitors now trail 6th placed Bristol City by a seven point margin, so Rovers will be keen to return to winning ways down in Berkshire on Wednesday night.

One thing in Blackburn’s favour is that they’ve scored in 13 of their 15 away matches to date, and with the goal threats of creative midfielder Dack (11 goals, 5 assists) and striker Graham (10 goals, 3 assists) amongst their personnel, we could very likely see both teams score in this clash.
