Blackburn Rovers v Hull City - Match Preview

Blackburn Rovers v Hull City - Match Preview

It’s been a successful return to the Championship so far this season for Blackburn Rovers who were dealt the agony of relegation two seasons ago, as they dropped down to League One.

However, this may well have been a blessing in disguise as Blackburn Rovers quickly bounced back from the third tier under manager Tony Mowbray and they now sit in a creditable top half position in the Championship in 10th place.

Relegation can be the harshest of ‘wake-up calls’ but it seems to have done Blackburn Rovers some good as their record at Ewood Park has seen Rovers collect W6, D6, L2 scoring 20 goals for and conceding 15 goals, while they head into Saturday’s clash with in-form Hull City on the back of three league wins on the trot.

Recent victories against West Brom, Millwall and Ipswich Town have lifted them into the top half of the division and just six points below the play-off pack. Blackburn’s steady ascent can be contributed to influential midfielder Bradley Dack who has chipped in with 10 goals and 4 assists and has been the perfect foil for forward Danny Graham (9 goals, 3 assists).

Mowbray is likely to be without defender Mulgrew though, so former Everton man Jack Rodwell looks set to continue in defence, while young forward, Joe Nuttall is pushing for a start having scored in consecutive matches for Rovers.

Hull City have emerged as the form team in the Championship at the moment as The Tigers have put together an impressive 10-match sequence without defeat which has transformed the Humberside outfit from possible relegation candidates to sitting on the fringes of the play-off pack.

Okay, Hull are still six points adrift of 6th placed Derby County but you get the picture - Nigel Adkins has once again worked his magic at this level and his side have won 7 of these last 10 matches as the goals have also flowed; 25 goals in this 10-match sequence is nothing to be sniffed at.

Hull have won six of their last seven matches overall in the Championship while their record away from home reads 5 wins, 4 draws, 5 defeats, scoring 20 goals and conceding 22 in reply.

The visitors also carry serious goal threats in the shape of forward Chris Martin along with the likes of Jarrod Bowen (14 goals, 3 assists), Grosicki (4 goals, 6 assists) and Evandro (3 assists), but they’ll be without Australian midfielder Jackson Irvine who is away on international duty at the Asian Cup.

Blackburn will push forward at Ewood Park while Hull City are firing on all cylinders right now and fancy their chances against anyone in the Championship right now - this match could well see both teams score here as a result.
