There are some great games to look forward to in the Champions League on Tuesday night and one of the best is taking place at the Groupama Stadium as Lyon welcome Manchester City in Group F.

Lyon start the match on 6 points from four games and although a win will not necessarily guarantee them a place in the knockout stages, it would move them very close to qualifying. Manchester City start the night 3 points clear of Lyon in first place and with a home match remaining, know a point would probably be enough to seal their place in the next round.

Lyon are sitting second in Ligue 1 following their 1-0 home win over St Etienne at the weekend.  However, they are already 15 points adrift of leaders Pairs Saint-Germain and the French title is out of reach this season.

Nonetheless, Lyon have been in good form recently and are undefeated in their last seven games.  There have been wins over Nimes, Angers, Guingamp and St Etienne but not one in the Champions League.  Having picked up a fantastic 2-1 win at Manchester City in their first Champions League match of the season, Lyon have been held to a draw in each of their last three.

Their home record in the Champions League is poor and Lyon have won only one of their last nine matches in the competition which came back in 2016.  They have kept just two clean sheets in those nine games.

Manchester City continued their tremendous form on the weekend as they defeated West Ham United 3-0 away from home in the Premier League. It was their eighth win in a row and Manchester City have scored 3 or more goals in six of those eight games.

Pep Guardiola’s team are yet to taste defeat away from home this season and have won seven of their nine away matches, with two of those wins coming in the Champions League at Shakhtar Donetsk and Hoffenheim.

Manchester City have won five and lost two of their last seven away Champions League games, scoring 2 or more goals in each of the five victories.

Looking ahead to the team news and Lyon could be without goalkeeper Jordan Ferri and midfielder Leo Dubois who are struggling with injury.  Attacker Amine Gouiri is out until March with a knee injury.

Manchester City travel without left-back Benjamin Mendy and attacking midfielder Kevin De Bruyne who are injured.  Bernardo Silva is rated as doubtful but could be fit enough to make the squad.

Both teams like to play attacking football and it would be a surprise if both teams failed to score in this game.  However, despite losing at home it is Manchester City who have the superior quality and they should have enough to win the match and seal qualification to the knockout stages.
