Dortmund youngster Jadon Sancho has been named in the England squad for the Three Lions upcoming Nations League clashes with Croatia and Spain. It is the winger’s first call-up to the national squad and he has not even featured for the under-21 squad.
Sancho makes history with his call-up, as he is the first player born after 2000 to receive a call-up for the Three Lions senior squad.
Racked up incredible numbers despite minutes
Sancho has not started a game for Dortmund this season. However, the youngster has racked up an incredible five assists and one goal in just 124 minutes playing for BVB in the German top-flight.
No other player in Europe’s top-five leagues can match his productivity. Those are certainly encouraging numbers for the highly-rated winger, who can play on either flank in attack.
More chance of first-team football at Dortmund
Sancho has been touted for stardom for a while since he was starring for Manchester City’s youth teams. The promising star took the major step of turning down a new contract with the Citizens to join BVB when he was just 17.
The move was designed to help the winger play regular first-team football at an early age. Although he is not starting for Dortmund, he is in and around the squad making appearances from the bench.
BVB is a club that gives young players the chance to shine. Sancho’s promising substitute displays are likely to lead to more minutes in the near future.
Sancho is definitely one for the future
While England boss Gareth Southgate has brought Sancho into the squad for the next two games, he may not feature in either of the matches. However, his performances in youth teams and at Dortmund so far suggest he is definitely a star of the future.
Sancho is sure to play far more minutes in the Dortmund first-team in the near future, as he is the sort of player who gets fans excited. If he continues in his current vein, the winger could enjoy a highly successful football career.
