Burnley to inflict more pain on Huddersfield

Burnley to inflict more pain on Huddersfield

Burnley have overcome their awful start to the Premier League season. Since losing four straight matches and looking like relegation candidates, Sean Dyche’s team has won two consecutive games.

Now in mid-table, Burnley look ready to push on further. Huddersfield, on the other hand, sit at the bottom of the Premier League. David Wagner’s Terriers have been dreadful securing two points from 21 possible. Huddersfield look set for relegation unless something dramatic happens soon.

Sean Dyche’s team has seen three or more goals in their last two wins. Burnley defeated Bournemouth 4-0 before beating Cardiff City 2-1 last weekend. Midfielder Ashley Barnes and defender James Tarkowski lead Burnley in goals with two each. They have only managed nine strikes this term and six have come in their last two fixtures. It is proof that Dyche has settled the side down after playing in the Europa League prior to the domestic season kicking off.

Huddersfield have managed just three goals this term. It is the lowest tally in the Premier League. The Terriers have registered a –13-goal difference. Huddersfield’s three goals have been scored by three different players.

Midfielder Aaron Mooy, who was so important to Huddersfield last term, is yet to register a goal or assist. His importance in midfield has waned and he may be feeling the effects of a summer at the World Cup with Australia.

Burnley are undefeated in their last five matches against Huddersfield in all competitions. Last season saw both matches finish nil-nil. Prior to last season, the teams’ previous four fixtures each saw three or more goals.

Neither side have new injury worries and should have a full complement of players available. The Clarets are heavy favourites on Saturday. Burnley won their last home match, which was their only win at Turf Moor. Huddersfield have conceded 10 goals on the road this season, yet all of their goals have been scored away from home.

Burnley have improved greatly since being knocked out of the Europa League. The club has also been knocked out of EFL Cup. Burnley are now focused on the Premier League and it is paying off. Dyche continues to do well despite having a squad short on talent.

Huddersfield have a similar dearth in talent, yet the Terriers just haven’t had the workman-like play to get off the bottom of the table. Burnley will win their third straight fixture and continue their improved mid-table play.
