If Chelsea vs Liverpool was a big clash last weekend, then in comparison to what is on offer this weekend than that can only be described as an under card fight to what must be considered the main event of the season so far.

This Sunday sees Liverpool and Manchester City square off at Anfield and with both sides tied on 19 points and taking second and first place in the table respectively going into the weekend, then it is fair to say that the script almost writes itself.

Although there is the distinct possibility that Chelsea may well leapfrog them before this game starts, this one is a bona fide top table of the clash and it is one that Liverpool will be confident of getting all three points from.

If anyone has Manchester City’s number, then it is the Reds especially at Anfield. Jurgen Klopp masterminded two key victories at Anfield one in the Premier League with the other being in the Champions League.

The league win was one that resulted in a seven goal thriller, as Liverpool not only came out on top but also ended Manchester City’s invincible start to the season, although in the grand scheme of things it did not stop Pep Guardiola’s men from winning the league at a canter.

At the same though Liverpool did stop Manchester City in the pursuit of winning a first ever Champions League trophy, especially as they romped to a 3-0 win in the first leg of the Quarter-final clash.

A game which saw City rocked from the start due to the cacophony of noise that they had to deal with from the opening whistle, something that also meant that former Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling was dropped to the bench.

It was felt that he would not be able to deal with the targeted vitriol from his one time beloved fans and he would be in the best frame of mind for that encounter, a decision which you could well say backfired come full time.

This time around City’s manager Pep Guardiola will have to decide if Sterling has got enough maturity to deal with the boo boys, especially when you consider the impressive form he is in right now.

Something that was clearly evident last weekend when he opened the scoring against Brighton at the Etihad. City eventually won the game 2-0 and it was a result that saw them return to the top of the Premier League.

Liverpool however could not dispose them as they had to settle for a draw at Stamford Bridge a couple of hours later, they were perhaps fortunate that they earned a point as it needed a stupendous strike from Daniel Sturridge to restore parity late on.

That goal keeps Liverpool’s unbeaten start to the season intact, although it does mean that they have lost their 100% percent record. Although if they can get the better of Manchester City on Sunday then I’m sure that will be long since forgotten.
