Ostersunds in European Contention with a Win

Ostersunds in European Contention with a Win

The 2018 Swedish Allsvenskan is well under way this season and this weekend sees the 15th round of matches.  As things stand, AIK lead the way but there is plenty to play for as their lead is only 3 points.

Even Ostersunds in 5th place will feel they still have a chance to catch the leaders this season and on Saturday they meet Elfsborg at the Jamtkraft Arena.

A win for Ostersunds would see then move level on points with Djurgardens in 4th place and possibly within just 3 points of second and third place.  Both second and third place earns qualification to the Europa League next season.

Elfsborg have a potential relegation battle on their hands. They start this game down in 11th place with only 16 points from their fourteen games played.  A win here could see the move up one position in the table.

Ostersunds are in very good form and trends show they come into this match unbeaten in their last seven league games.  There have been wins at Sundsvall and Hammarby plus home victories against Sirius, Hacken and most recently, Trelleborg.

The only dropped points in that run of seven unbeaten games came in a 1-1 draws at AIK and Malmo, which are both good away results.

Having suffered two defeats at home against Orebro and Norrkoping, Ostersunds have won their last three league games at the Jamtkraft Arena.  Ostersunds have scored 5, 2 and 4 goals in those games and conceded 3 in the process.

Elfsborg may be near the foot of the table but their form has been decent.  They started the season very slowly, winning just one of their first nine games but have lost only one of their last five Allsvenskan matches.

The defeat came in their last match which was away to Norrkoping and Elfsborg went down 1-0.  However, prior to that result they won three games in succession against Dalkurg and Orebro away from home and Trelleborgs at home.  Following the win over Trelleborgs, Elfsborg picked up a point at home to Hammarby.

Elfsborg have won three of their last six away league matches and trends show both teams have scored in thirteen of their last sixteen away Allsvenskan games.

Looking ahead to the team news and Ostersunds will be without goalkeeper Andrew Mills who has a knee injury.  Every other player is available and the hosts are expected to start with Saman Ghoddos leading the attack.

Elfsborg could be without Jorgen Horn who has a calf injury and he is joined by Christopher Mcvey on the treatment table.  Viktor Prodell and Jesper Karlsson are competing for a place up-front.

This could be an exciting game on Saturday evening, with over 2.5 goals. However, Ostersunds are in good form and should come out on top, helping their claim for a Europa League place.
