Wisla Krakow Targeting First Win of the Season

Wisla Krakow Targeting First Win of the Season

The 2018/19 Polish Ekstraklasa has started and this weekend sees the second round of games.  The action begins on Friday night as Wisla Krakow welcome Miedz Legnica to the Stadion Miejski im. Henryka Reymana.

Wisla Krakow finished 7th in the regular league table last season before moving up one place to 6th in the Championship round of the season.  Only the top four teams in Poland qualify for European football meaning Wisla Krakow miss out this season.

Miedz Legnica are making their first trip to Wisla Krakow in the Polish top-flight as they won promotion for the first time last season.  Can they cause an upset against one of the more established teams in Poland?

Wisla Krakow started their 2018/19 campaign with a disappointing 0-0 draw at home against Arka Gdynia, who were in the Relegation round last season.  Arka Gdynia finished 9th in the regular season but dropped to 12th come the end of the campaign.

That was a match Wisla Krakow were expected to win, especially in-front of their own fans and they must respond with a good performance in their second home game in succession.

Home form was very inconsistent last season and Wisla Krakow stared well only to find they could not maintain their position at the top of the table.  The 0-0 draw with Arka Gdynia on the opening days of this season means Wisla Krakow have won just one of their last five league games on home soil.

Wisla Krakow have scored 5 goals and conceded 5 goals across those matches, meaning they have both scored and conceded an average of 1 goal per game in their last five home league matches.

Miedz Legnica will be delighted with their win last week having defeated Pogon Szczecin 1-0 at home. This was their first ever match in the Ekstraklasa and they did themselves proud ahead of this tough game.

They picked up some good wins away from home last season but they struggled to win games towards the end of the campaign.  Miedz Legnica failed to win any of their last five away league games, drawing four and losing one.  While they never conceded more than a single goal in any of those matches, scoring goals became a problem and Miedz Legnica netted just three times across those five games.

Team news and Wisla Krakow could be without Matej Palcic as the right-back is struggling with a thigh problem.  Midfielder Rafal Boguski missed a penalty last week but is expected to keep his place in the team.

Miedz Legnica have every player fit and available.  Considering their positive result last week, there is little need to change their team and Dominik Nowak should name the same starting XI.

Wisla Krakow will see this as a must-win game following their dropped points last week.  However, it could be a close game in terms of the final score and Wisla Krakow may come out on top but by a narrow margin and under 2.5 goals.
