Malaga Aim to Finish Season on A High

Malaga Aim to Finish Season on A High

This weekend sees the final round of matches in the Spanish top flight.  Barcelona will end the season as deserved champions and can finish with 93 points and 100 goals to their name.

However, for every success there is a failure and Malaga have endured a terrible season, facing relegation long before their final match of the season, at home to Getafe.  The only crumb of comfort for Malaga is they can finish off the bottom by winning this match and hoping Las Palmas lose.

Getafe were fancied by many to be involved in a relegation battle but they have enjoyed a great season.  A win in this game will ensure they finish the season in 8th place, which is a brilliant result.

Malaga come into this match having lost 4-1 at Espanyol last weekend.  Trends show they have lost each of their last three La Liga games and have lost six of their last seven, picking up just one win which came at home against Real Sociedad.

At home, Malaga have lost six of their last eight games, winning only two.  The victories have come against Villarreal and Real Sociedad and Malaga kept a clean sheet in both games.  However, conceding goals has been a problem this season and Malaga have kept 3 clean sheets in their last thirteen home matches.

Getafe will be aiming to finish a good season on a high and will want to bounce back from their 1-0 defeat to Europa League winners Atletico Madrid last weekend.

That defeat was their first in six La Liga games and Getafe put a run together which saw them push for a Europa League place themselves until the defeat against Atletico Madrid.  Trends show Getafe have won four of their last six La Liga matches, including good away wins at Valencia, Eibar and Las Palmas.

Recent away form has been very good and Getafe have won four of their last five away La Liga games and have scored at least one goal in five of their last six. Getafe will expect to score at least one goal in this game.

Looking ahead to the team news and Malaga have a long list of absent players for this match.  Adalberto Penaranda, Gonzalo Castro, Federico Ricca, Miguel Torres and Diego Rolan are all injured.  Ignasi Miquel and Roberto Rosales are both suspended meaning a place in the team for Manu Aleman and Robles.

Getafe are without the injured duo of Mauro Arambarri and Markel Bergara.  They also have doubts over Leandro Cabrera but Damian Suarez is back following suspension.

Malaga will want to give their fans something to cheer about at the end of the season but Getafe are the team in form.  The visitors have had an excellent season and should sign off with a win.
