Latics and Saints to finish all square

Latics and Saints to finish all square

On Sunday afternoon, League One Wigan have the chance to take another Premier League scalp in the FA Cup, as the Latics host Southampton at DW Stadium in last eight of the competition.

Wigan recorded a famous 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the last round, having also knocked Premier League Bournemouth and West Ham in the previous rounds. It is interesting to note that all of those victories were at the DW Stadium.

In fact, the side from Lancashire are unbeaten in seven FA Cup ties on home soil, having recorded five wins in the process. The home side has also scored two or more goals in four of their last five FA Cup ties on home soil.

Wigan are unbeaten in their last two meetings with the visitors, recording one win and picking up a draw. The last time these two teams met was back in 2013 when the game finished in an entertaining 2-2 draw at the DW Stadium.

Southampton have struggled for results of late in the Premier League, which led to Mark Hughes replacing Mauricio Pellegrino as the team’s head coach.

Despite their league struggles, the FA Cup has given the Saints fans something to cheer about, as they have beaten Fulham, Watford and last time out West Brom to get to the quarter-finals. The visitors have a respectable recent record on their travels in the FA Cup, winning six of their last nine games.

Their recent away games in this competition have been pretty low scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in four of their last six outings on their travels.

In fact, the Saints have a decent recent record on their travels all around, as they have lost just one of their last seven away games in all competitions.

Forebet predicts that this tie will end in a tight and low scoring draw, which will lead to a replay that neither team needs.
