On Thursday, New York City FC host Sporting KC at the Yankee Stadium in MLS, as the home side look to cement their place in the top two of the Eastern Conference.
The team from the Big Apple are currently second in the Eastern Conference standings. Patrick Vieira’s team are currently four games unbeaten in MLS, recording three wins in the process. The home side have also scored two or more goals in three of their last four games in MLS.
Last time out in MLS, Vieira’s side drew 1-1 with New York Red Bulls in their local derby. New York have a good home record in MLS and are unbeaten in eight games in the American top-flight, recording six wins in the process. The home side have also scored two or more goals in their last eight league outings at the Yankee Stadium.
One negative for the home side is that they have suffered defeats in their only two MLS meetings with Sporting KC, losing the last meeting 3-1 in July last season. The only meeting at the Yankee Stadium finished 1-0 to Kansas City in 2015.
Kansas City are currently third in the Western Conference standings but have played fewer games than Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers. In fact, a victory in New York would move Peter Vermes’ team to the top of the table.
The visitors form in MLS has been mixed of late, although they did beat Dallas 2-0 last time out. However, KC have lost just one of their last 11 games in the American top-flight. However, their recent form on the road in MLS has been poor, as they have won just one of their last nine away games.
Forebet predicts that New York will enhance their chances of finishing in the Eastern Conference top two by beating KC in this clash.
