On Sunday, South American champions Chile and African champions Cameroon go head-to-head in Moscow in Group B of the Confederations Cup.
Chile heads into this game on the back of a 3-2 friendly defeat last time out against Romania. Results have been mixed of late for Juan Antonio Pizzi’s side, as the South American champions have won three, drew one and lost two of their last six games.
Their recent international clashes have been high scoring, with over 2.5 goals scored in three of their last four outings, while unsurprisingly Chile have also scored two or more goals in three of those four games.
Chile will once again look to Arsenal forward and talisman Alexis Sanchez to provide the guile and the goal threat needed to beat the reigning African champions, although the energetic forward is a slight doubt for this clash. Manchester City goalkeeper Claudio Bravo also looks set to miss out through injury.
Like their opponents, Cameroon’s recent record on the international stage has not been great, as the Indomitable Lions have lost two of their last three games, including suffering a 4-0 defeat against Colombia last time out in Spain.
However, those aforementioned defeats are Cameroon’s only losses in their last 17 outings on the international stage. Their recent international outings have been relatively low scoring, as there has been under 2.5 goals scored in five of their last eight games.
Cameroon are without full-back Ambroise Oyongo through injury, so Ernest Mabouka looks set to deputise in his absence. Cameroon boss Hugo Broos’ is likely to use the 4-4-2 formation that proved so successful at the African Cup of Nations.
This clash should be an exciting one but could be very tight. However, Forebet predicts that Chile will just come out of this game on top and start their campaign with a victory.
