Botafogo to Stay Top of Serie A by Beating Fortaleza
    09/06/23 1966

The league leaders in Serie A are back in action this Sunday in the Brazilian Serie A with Botafogo set to welcome Fortaleza to the Estádio Nilton Santos off the back of a tough run of form since we entered June.

Botafogo remain top of the Brazilian Serie A, but they are heading into this one without a win in all competitions this Month. This started with a defeat to Atletico-PR in the Copa do Brasil and although they won that game 1-0, they lost on penalties after a 3-3 aggregate scorelines.

Although they technically won on the day and lost in the end, Botafogo lost completely in a Serie A match to Athletico-PR just days later in a 1-0 away loss. Botafogo hit the target just twice in that game and barely looked like scoring throughout.

A draw to LDU Quito would come soon after for Copa Sudamericana on matchday five of the group stage to put them on a three-game winless run.

The club's last victory came in a 2-0 win over America-MG after a goal each from Junior Santos and Luis Henrique in a match that saw Botafogo hit the target six times from 18 efforts and have 56% of the ball.

It keeps them top by two points above Palmeiras, and although the latter in second is still unbeaten, Botafogo have won seven times and let in just seven goals and scored 16 - no side has a better defensive record this season.

The club have also beat Cesar Vallejo 3-2 in the Copa Sudamericana and defeated Fluminense 1-0 in the league within the past month after also smashing Corinthians 3-0. This means they also lost in the league to Goias 2-1 at the start of May.

In the Copa Sudamericana, Botafogo remain unbeaten with nine goals scored and just two wins from the five games. This does, however, keep the Serie A leaders top of Group A heading into the final game of the season.

As for Fortaleza, they head into this one with three wins and just one loss so far in Serie A. Only this defeat is one less than Botafogo, they sit seven points behind because of five draws from the nine games.

Last time out in the league, the club drew 0-0 at home to Bahia.

Forebet predicts a win here for Botafogo and for the game to see under 2.5 goals.
