Atalanta go into the final day of the Serie A season needing a win to clinch Europa League qualification for next term.

La Dea are fifth in the Serie A standings and just two points ahead of seventh-place Juventus. Roma are sixth in the standings and one point behind Atalanta. The day could end with Atalanta qualifying for Europe or finishing outside of the top six. It is a big weekend for La Dea.

Monza will make the trip to Bergamo aiming for an upset. The Biancorossi are 10th in the league standings. The club will finish its first season in Serie A with a fantastic 52 points at the very least.

Hopes will be high at Monza that the club can replicate this season in 2023-24. Perhaps European qualification could be on tap next term.

Atalanta went to Monza earlier this season and left with a 2-0 win. Star striker Rasmus Hojlund opened the scoring in the 57th minute. Eight minutes later, Monza’s Marlon Santos scored an own goal to give Atlanta a commanding lead.

Hojlund is one of the most sought-after players in Europe heading into the summer transfer window. The 20-year-old Dane joined Atalanta in the summer of 2022 from Austria’s Sturm Graz for €17.2 million. He could potentially move this summer for double the fee.

The striker has just eight goals in 31 appearances. He added a further four assists. The potential of the player is high.

Atalanta are blowing hot and cold going into the final day. They took nine points from their last six games. Three of Atalanta’s last four matches ended in defeat. It wouldn’t be a surprise if Gian Piero Gasperini’s team fell out of the top six by failing to win on Sunday based on current form.

Monza, on the other hand, took 11 points from the last six games. However, Monza have nothing to play for on Sunday night. The Biancorossi are coming off a defeat against Lecce 1-0 a week ago.

Gasperini has a laundry list of injuries heading into the game. Forward Duvan Zapata is out with a calf problem. Defenders Brandon Soppy, Matteo Ruggeri, and Jose Luis Palomino are all three doubts to make the squad.

Midfielders Lukas Vorlicky and Jeremie Boga are both unlikely to make the team as well. Defender Hans Hateboer is ruled out with an ACL injury.

Monza coach Rafaelle Palladino has no fresh injuries heading into the final day. However, the team has nothing to play for, which should lead to a defeat.

Atalanta have European football qualification to play for. La Dea should win 2-0 in a close tense game in Bergamo.
