Bosnia & Herzegovina will take on Iceland at home this Thursday night as the two sides kick off their attempts to qualify for Euro 2024 after both failed to make it to the last edition of the tournament two years ago.

Iceland gave it a good go in terms of getting into Euro 2020, as they managed to finish on 19 points from the 10 games and were only defeated on three occasions as they lost to France and Turkey.

They did end up finishing four points behind the qualifying spot in the end, as they also head into this qualifying group having won six of those 10 games.

Iceland were also not in action at the World Cup, meaning their last set of competitive fixtures came back in the Baltic Cup, where they went on to win the trophy off the back of two penalty shootout victories.

They first met with Lithuania in a lacklustre 0-0 draw that saw Horour Bjogvin Magnusson sent off for the first time for his country, but Iceland managed to score all six of their penalties.

The Icelandics then met with Latvia in the final and again won on penalties after Isak Bergmann Johannesson scored after 62 minutes from the penalty spot. This was the first time they had won the Baltic Cup and it marked just their third major honour after victories in the Greenland Cup in the 1980s.

Iceland have also played twice in January after the World Cup, as they drew 1-1 with Estonia thanks to a late penalty equaliser from Andri Guojohnsen before then going on to lose to Sweden by two late goals from them after Sveinn Aron Gujohnsen scored.

As for Bosnia & Herzegovina, they head into this one without a game since September where they were hammered 4-1 by Romania in a Nations League encounter.

They did defeat Montenegro just before this, however, and ended their Nations League campaign late last year in top of League B Group 3 and earned promotion into the next group as a result.

Edin Dzeko will once again lead the line and captain his country at 37 and the prolific striker is once again netting a few for Inter Milan this season and comes into this game having scored 11 times in 38 games for the Serie A giants, including seven goals in 27 Serie A fixtures.

Dzeko already has 64 goals for Bosnia & Herzegovina and comes into this game as their all-time leading goalscorer.
