A poor recent run of form has hindered their chances of playing in the German top-flight next season.
A 1-0 win at Karlsruhe in their last league outing ended a five-game winless run in the league for Paderborn while also ending a four-game losing run in the league.
Paderborn has a poor recent record in the DFB Pokal, as they have won just one of their previous four games in the competition over 90 minutes, which was a 10-0 win over the Oberliga team Einheit Wernigerode.
They have also won just one of their last four matches in the competition on home soil.
While Paderborn is striving to return to the Bundesliga, Stuttgart will seek to preserve their status in the top flight of German football.
The visitors are currently only outside the relegation play-off spot courtesy of a superior goal difference to 16th place Bochum.
VFB head into this clash on the back of a four-game winless run in all competitions. Last time out, Bruno Labbadia’s team suffered a 2-1 defeat at in-form RB Leipzig.
Stuttgart has a relatively decent recent record in the DFB Pokal, as they have won three of their last four games in the competition while keeping clean sheets in all of the recent wins.
Stuttgart has also won their previous three away games in the competition without conceding.
