Serie A’s Crazy Fight for the Top Six to Continue as São Paulo Edge Past América Mineiro

We are onto gameweek 11 of the Brazilian Serie A this season with Sao Paulo set to welcome América Mineiro to the Cícero Pompeu de Toledo Stadium this weekend with the two sides separated by just two points in an intense battle at the top end of the table.

It's been an excellent start to the Serie A over in Brazil so far, with Palmeiras just one point clear of Corinthians at the top of the table, while there are only three points separating third-placed Atletico-PR and 13th-placed Goias.

It does mean that even with goals difference, there is a chance that there could be an almighty 10 league positional changes inside one gameweek of Serie A action, with so many teams so close to one another in the table.

Sao Paulo are one of the sides slightly underachieving in this sense, as they've seen the big sides in Brazil sit in the top four with them down in sixth in the Libertadores qualifiers early on. There’s a very long way to go, however, and São Paulo merely trail Atletico Mineiro by a point ahead of this clash.

They have, however, only managed to win three games so far from the 10 available, but their defensive record of just 12 goals conceded and 16 scored is relatively commendable so far. Rogerio Ceni's men drew with Coritiba last time out, as Jonathan Calleri scored inside five minutes in a 1-1 draw.

It has now extended Sao Paulo's drawing run to four games in the Serie A ever since they beat Cuiaba 2-1 on home soil. Corinthians, Ceara, Avai, and Coritiba all got a draw against them in the past four games.

América fell back into the losing column last time out too, as they lost quite comfortably to Ceara in the last round. Vagner Mancini's men did manage to beat Cuiaba and get a commendable draw with Corinthians in the two games prior, however, but it does leave them down in ninth and just two points off Sao Paulo.

Although the form from either side is very similar, just as there is little separating them in the table, São Paulo may just have the edge here.

Their home crowd, plus their solid home form does now leave them as the favourites to win here, and Forebet predicts a victory for them and the game to see over 2.5 goals.
