Amidst all of the Nations League competitions being conducted around various parts of the globe, the Brazilian top flight action continues and this Sunday afternoon features the upcoming clash between 13th placed Goias and their 12th placed visitors, Ceara, at the Estádio de Hailé Pinheiro.
Goias bring a three-match unbeaten run into this Sunday’s clash having also picked up five points in the process by way of 1-1 draws with both Bragantino and Fortaleza along with a 2-1 win away from home at Botafogo, while the bigger picture shows Goias have lost just once in their last seven matches overall.
That one defeat within this seven-game sequence was a 1-0 defeat away from home at Flamengo but wins against Atletico GO, Santos and Botafogo along with three draws as well, have helped to keep Goias from slipping down towards the relegation zone.
Indeed, the draw has featured prominently in Goias’s recent games on home soil at their Estádio de Hailé Pinheiro as the hosts are unbeaten in their last seven games, which consists of three wins and no fewer than four draws.
Onto Ceara, and they too have produced some solid results of late in the Brazilian top flight as the visitors bring an unbeaten run of six games into this Sunday afternoon’s mid-table encounter.
Victories over Fortaleza 1-0 and America Mineiro 2-0, both of which were away from home, have been complemented by picking up points in draws with Flamengo, Santos, Sao Paulo and Coritiba, which has also helped them into a mid-table position ahead of this weekend’s action.
In terms of actual league wins though, these have been fairly thin on the ground where Ceara have been concerned as the visitors have claimed just two wins out of their last nine matches overall in Serie A, and although both of these wins were recorded on their travels, the bigger picture shows Ceara have struggled in the majority of their away games in the domestic top flight.
Ceara have won their last two away matches on the trot with victories at Fortaleza and America Mineiro but overall, wins on the road have been sporadic as the visitors have managed to collect just four away wins from their previous 25 outings.
12 draws within this sequence suggests Ceara’s best hopes are a draw here which may also suit Goias as well.
