Bulgaria to struggle against Georgia

Bulgaria will hold home advantage once again for Sunday’s Nations League clash against Georgia in their League C Group 4 encounter at the Huvepharma Arena in Razgrad.

Bulgaria started their Nations League campaign with a point against North Macedonia in a 1-1 draw.

But although the hosts are now without a win from their last five matches in all competitions, they will fancy their chances of returning to winning ways when they play host to Georgia.

It is worth mentioning that four of Bulgaria’s preceding five games were played away from home which consisted of a draw at Ukraine in a friendly along with three defeats on the trot, suffered at Switzerland 4-0 in a World Cup qualifier followed by back to back friendly losses at Qatar and Croatia respectively.

Results at home though in recent times have seen Bulgaria put together a four-match unbeaten run with victories gained over Lithuania and Northern Ireland in 1-0 and 2-1 wins respectively in World Cup qualifiers, along with a 4-1 romp over Sunday’s opponents, Georgia, in the international friendly in between.

Georgia occupy top spot in Group 4 as they took full advantage of their opening fixture against minnows, Gibraltar, with Georgia running out comfortable winners, 4-0.

But the visitors are expected to face a tougher proposition in the shape of Bulgaria on Sunday evening.

That opening win against Gibraltar also extended Georgia’s unbeaten run in all competitions to six matches, an impressive sequence of results that include five wins and a draw.

Victories over Kosovo and most impressive of all, a 2-0 home win over Sweden in World Cup qualifiers, along with wins in friendlies against Uzbekistan and Bosnia-Herzegovina will give the visitors plenty of confidence ahead of their trip to the Huvepharma Arena on Sunday.

However, three of Georgia’s five wins were achieved on home soil while form away from home has been inconsistent as Georgia have collected just three wins out of their last 11 outings on the road.

And they have struggled in previous exchanges against their hosts, Bulgaria, as well.

Bulgaria have won each of the previous four meetings at home against Georgia on the trot but the hosts will struggle to beat Georgia on Sunday evening.
