PSG to continue momentum against Brest
    14/01/22 2911

Saturday night sees the runaway Ligue 1 leaders, PSG, play host to 13th placed Brest at their Parc des Princes ground with the hosts looking to further extend their lead at the summit of the French top flight.

PSG hold a commanding 11-point cushion over 2nd placed Nice prior to this weekend’s Ligue 1 action but the Parisian club’s lead could have been even larger had it not been for a spate of draws in recent times.

The hosts have been involved in four draws within their last five games overall in the domestic top flight as they’ve been held to stalemates by Nice, Lens, Lorient and Lyon whilst picking up just one win during this sequence, that being a 2-0 home win against Monaco.

Nevertheless, PSG sit comfortably on top of the division having put together an 11-match unbeaten run and indeed the hosts have suffered just the one loss so far in what has been a solid campaign for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

However, PSG’s margin of victory (if they beat Brest) may not be as large as many anticipate as no fewer than 10 personnel are expected to be absent through international call-ups for the African Cup of Nations along with Donnarumma, Danilo, Di Maria, Draxler and Neymar amongst the injured list.

Brest occupy 13th place on the Ligue 1 ladder having experienced a recent dip in form and results as the visitors have failed to win any of their last three matches overall, losing twice to Montpellier 4-0 and a 3-0 loss to Nice.

However, it’s worth pointing out that both of these losses were on home soil at their Stade Francis-Le Blé while overall, Brest have suffered just two defeats out of their last 11 matches in the French top flight.

This fairly solid run of results also include a run of six wins on the trot with notable wins gained over Monaco and Marseille while the visitors also have reason to be upbeat about their chances here this Saturday as they’ve put together a five-match unbeaten run on their travels.

Wins on the road at Lorient, Bordeaux and Marseille give Brest a chance of getting something out of this clash or at the very least, avoid a heavy defeat.

To sum up, PSG should win this one despite the absence of numerous personnel but the hosts may not get it all their own way.
