    24/11/21 3486

Olympiacos host Fenerbahçe on Thursday night in the Europa League. The Greek team is second in Group D going into matchday 5 and sit four points behind first-place Eintracht Frankfurt.

Pedro Martins’ team needs to pick up a win to remain in second place and have any hope of overtaking Eintracht Frankfurt on the final day of the group stage.

Fenerbahçe are third in Group D. The Turkish team has taken five points from 12 and sit one point behind Olympiacos. Fenerbahçe have claimed a mere one win in the group stage and will be transferred to the Europa Conference League if they cannot finish second in the group.

Olympiacos go into Thursday’s home clash with Fenerbahçe on the back of two straight wins. The Greeks won 3-2 at the weekend in a big Greek Super League clash against AEK Athens. Just twice this season Olympiacos have lost matches.

Their two loses came at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League. In the reverse fixture against Fenerbahçe, Olympiacos smashed the Turks 3-0.

Tiquinho Soares scored in the first half and Giorgos Masouras bagged two goals in the second half to give Olympiacos to the win. Martins will expect more of the same from the Greeks on Thursday night.

Fenerbahçe are unbeaten in three straight games in all competitions ahead of matchday 5 in the Europa League. The Vitor Pereira’s team won the Istanbul Derby at the weekend against Galatasaray 2-1. They should have a boost going into Greece following the derby victory.

Pereira could be without two players for the match. Forward Enner Valencia is a doubt due to an ankle injury. Goalkeeper Altay Bayindir is ruled out due to a shoulder problem.

Martins has just one players reportedly suffering from an injury. Kostas Fortounis is ruled out of the match with an ACL injury. He is a long-term absentee. Youssef El-Arabi leads Olympiacos in goals with seven in 12 games in the Super League and Europa League.

El-Arabi is a danger in the final third for Olympiacos. He will be joined by Soares in attack. Soares, who scored in the reverse fixture, has five goals in all competitions this term.

Olympiacos thrashed Fenerbahçe 3-0 in the reverse fixture. They should flex their muscles once more against Fenerbahçe and pick up a second Europa League group stage win. Expect over 2.5 goals once more as Olympiacos seal second place in Group D.
