The PIF takeover of Newcastle United sparked expectations that the club would suddenly spring into life. However, that is not the case as the Magpies have still failed to win a single Premier League match.

Chelsea are at the top of the Premier League table with 22 points from 27 on offer. The Blues are one point ahead of Liverpool and will aim to stretch their lead over the Reds with a victory over Newcastle United and possible loss from the Merseysiders.

Newcastle United won this fixture during the 2019-20 season at St. James’ Park. The match finished 1-0 in favour of the Tyneside club. However, Chelsea were under the management of Frank Lampard, no Thomas Tuchel.

The last two fixtures between Newcastle United and Chelsea finished as wins for the Blues. Both fixtures were wins to nil with Chelsea winning 2-0 in the two games.

Chelsea took 15 points from the last 18 on offer in the league with 17 goals scored and two conceded. Newcastle United took three points from the last 18 on offer. The Magpies scored just seven times while conceding 12 goals to their last six opponents.

Graeme Jones is the Newcastle United caretaker manager as the club is hopeful Antonio Conte will join.

However, if the team continues to fight relegation, the Conte may not fancy taking the job.The good news for the time being is that Newcastle are just three points off of relegation safety.

Jones will be without Jonjo Shelvey due a suspension. Goalkeeper Martin Dubravka and Paul Dummett are both ruled out of the match due to injuries. Goalkeeper Freddie Woodman has a muscular issue that could keep him out of the fixture.

Tuchel has had N’Golo Kante, Cesar Azpilicueta, and Christian Pulisic all passed fit this week. The trio could play versus Newcastle. Centre-back Andreas Christensen is set to play following a fitness issue.

Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner remain ruled out through injury, but Ruben Loftus-Cheek could feature. Chelsea have won five of the last six Premier League matches versus Newcastle United.

The Blues should make it six of seven Premier League matches with a win versus the Magpies this weekend at St. James’ Park. Newcastle United may start brightly, but Chelsea’s quality should show as the Blues win with over 2.5 goals scored.

Chelsea are coming off of their second Carabao Cup penalty shootout win in a row. Fatigue could be a factor, but the Blues should still post a win over Newcastle.
