Lazio and Fiorentina will clash in Rome for what is one of the biggest games of their respective seasons as only a point separates both sides in Serie A with the home side coming off the back of a damning defeat.
There was quite a bit of hope lost when Simeone Inzaghi left for Inter Milan at the start of the season and Lazio’s fans were concerned about falling down the league table again.
However, Maurizio Sarri joined and despite winning Serie A with Juventus two years ago, the Italian is struggling to fix these worries.
In their last game, the Rome outfit were thrashed 4-1 by Hellas Verona where Giovanni Simeone scored all four goals for the home side as Ciro Immobile got another goal for his club.
The goal from the Euro 2020 winner puts him top of the Serie A goalscoring charts now, just one ahead of Edin Dzeko and two ahead of Simeone.
Immobile is expected to be on form again, however, as Lazio have seen over 2.5 goals in seven of their nine league games so far, while Fiorentina have also seen over 2.5 goals in seven Serie A outings.
Regardless of the expectation for goals, Immobile is chasing down another top scorer award in his homeland and if Lazio are to progress further up the table, he will be absolutely vital.
As of now, the club are slumped into eighth after the defeat to Verona and have scored 19 goals and let in an alarming 17 so far.
Nevertheless, a win for Sarri’s men and they will surpass Fiorentina in the table and potentially even break back into the top four over Atalanta, Roma and Juventus, but this is entirely dependent on other results this week.
As for Fiorentina, it’s been a solid start to the season for them considering they finished 12th last season and a great distance away from the European spots.
Right now it’s all about maintaining form for them and seeing how the season unfolds, and in their recent 3-0 victory over Cagliari, they proved they’re right in there at the moment.
Vincenzo Italiano’s men are currently just a point ahead of Lazio, so a draw on home turf in Rome wouldn’t be the worst result in order to keep up their hopes for a place in Europe. Nevertheless, Lazio’s home form has been excellent.
With this in mind, Forebet predicts a game of over 2.5 goals and a home victory for Sarri and co.
