Wolfsburg are on a terrible run of form going into their Bundesliga matchday 9 fixture against Freiburg at the VW Arena.
The Wolves are on a seven-match winless streak in all competitions. They have lost three straight Bundesliga games and followed it up with a 3-1 Champions League loss to Red Bull Salzburg in midweek.

Wolfsburg have gone from first in the Bundesliga to sixth in a short span of time and coach Mark van Bommel is struggling to get the best of his players. On Saturday Freiburg come to town seeking to keep their magical run going.
Freiburg have quietly started the Bundesliga season well with 16 points from 24 possible. This isn’t a team that is supposed to be in the Bundesliga’s top four.
However, due to a variety of factors, Freiburg are fourth in the league and could go top of the table with a win and results elsewhere going their way.
Coach Christian Streich’s team is unbeaten in six straight league matches.
Freiburg have not won away against Wolfsburg since the 2018-19 season, however. They have failed to win on their last two trips to the VW Arena taking just one point from six possible.
Wolfsburg have failed to win their last two matches at home going into matchday 9.
Van Bommel’s team has scored a mere four goals at home in four games while conceding four times.
Freiburg are unbeaten on the road this season with eight points from 12 on offer. They have scored five goals while allowing three to opponents this season in four away fixtures. Three of the last five Bundesliga games between Wolfsburg and Freiburg finished in draws.
Van Bommel has six players on the injury list going into matchday 9. Forward Luca Waldschmidt is ruled out of the game with a hip injury. Striker Wout Weghorst is ruled out due to a positive COVID-19 test.
Midfielders Yannick Gerhardt and Xaver Schlager are both ruled out of the game with long-term injuries. Defender William is out with an ACL injury as is Bartosz Bialek.
Streich has three players on the injury list going into the match. Roland Sallai is ruled out with a knee injury. Defenders Lukas Kubler and Jonathan Schmid are both doubts to play.
Three of the last five games between Wolfsburg and Freiburg ended as draws. With Wolfsburg struggling for points and Freiburg unbeaten in all eight games this season, Saturday’s match should finish as a draw with under 2.5 goals.
