Dortmund to Edge Past Ajax and Move to the Top of Group C

Ajax will welcome Borussia Dortmund to the Johan Cruijff ArenA this Tuesday night in what is a vital clash in Group C as both clubs sit on six points with each winning their first two games in Europe.

As of now, the Dutch champions are edging the German powerhouse at the top of the group simply by goal difference, as Ajax beat Sporting Lisbon 5-1 on the opening week, while Borussia Dortmund beat Besiktas by a mere goal.

Soon after, however, Donyell Malen netted his first goal for his new club when they beat Lisbon 1-0 in a relatively comfortable game. Erik ten Hag’s men also beat Besiktas 2-0 in their second fixture of the campaign, meaning they’ve let in just one and scored seven so far in Europe.

Back in the Netherlands, it’s once again another Ajax showcase as they sit top of the Eredivisie in what has been a sensational season for the Dutch giants in pursuit of defending their title yet again. PSV Eindhoven are right behind them by a point, but on the stats board, Ajax are running away with it.

In fact, the club have scored an extraordinary 32 from only nine games, which surpasses most participants in the Champions League this campaign. At the same time, perhaps even more impressively, they have also only conceded two league goals all season long.

This means you have to go back to September 15th for the last time Ajax let in a goal, which actually came in Europe against Lisbon, while they’ve kept a clean sheet in the Eredivisie since they drew with Twente back in August.

Dortmund, on the other hand, are once again the closest rivals to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga as they sit on 18 points, which is just one point behind the champions and league leaders.

Marco Rose’s side have seemingly moved on from their poor displays in the very early stages of the season, winning their last three and scoring six in this time and letting in only two goals. It does still mean BVB have conceded 14 goals from eight games on the domestic front, which is still quite worrying.

Erling Haaland scored twice again last time out as he returned from injury with a brace to make up for lost time, and he will give the Black and Yellow an almighty boost.

Given how Ajax are in excellent form of their own, this will be a close game, but Forebet expects a Dortmund win in a game that will see over 2.5 goals.
