Monday evening sees the conclusion of this weekend’s action in the Spanish second tier with the upcoming fixture between Real Zaragoza and Cartagena in a bottom half encounter in La Liga 2 at the Estadio de la Romareda.

Real Zaragoza have picked up just the single point from their opening two matches of this new domestic second tier campaign which was thanks to a 0-0 draw at home with Ibiza, but they then lost 2-0 away from home at Real Valladolid last weekend.

That defeat at Valladolid extended Real Zaragoza’s winless run in La Liga 2 to four matches overall, which also includes three defeats as the hosts fell to back-to-back defeats against Mallorca and Leganes at the end of last season’s campaign.

Prior to those two losses at the end of last term, Real Zaragoza had previously lost just one of their preceding 11 matches overall and the hosts will be hoping they can rekindle some of their earlier form on Monday night.

Results at home though have been solid as Zaragoza have lost just one of their last nine games on home soil and includes seven clean sheets.

Cartagena have fared even worse than their Monday night’s hosts, Real Zaragoza, as they’ve lost both of their opening two matches of this new La Liga 2 season, following defeats against Almeria 3-1 at home and a 2-0 loss on the road away at Huesca.

Cartagena have also lost three of their last four matches overall in the Spanish second tier as they were handed a 2-1 loss away at Lugo towards the end of last season, while the bigger picture shows that the visitors have won just four of their last 17 matches overall.

Three of these four wins were registered on home soil at their Estadio Municipal Cartagonova with victories over Leganes, Alcorcon, Castellon and Almeria but results on the road have been far less convincing.

Monday’s visitors have managed to record just two wins from their previous 13 matches on their travels and they’ve also found goals hard to come by as well, with Cartagena failing to score in six of these last 13 away games.

The two previous meetings between Zaragoza and Cartagena have both ended in stalemate and this Monday’s clash could be no exception.
