AC Milan opened their account in last weekend’s opening game of the new Serie A season by recording a 1-0 win away at Sampdoria to claim all three points and start their new campaign off in positive fashion.
AC Milan now return to their Stadio Giuseppe Meazza for this Sunday evening’s clash against Cagliari, no doubt looking to make it back-to-back wins in the Italian top flight.
Having put together a six-match unbeaten run which is carried over from the end of last season, the hosts look set for further success here this Sunday.
The hosts have also won five of these last six games which includes victories over Benevento 2-0, Juventus 3-0, Torino 7-0, Atalanta 2-0 and last week’s 1-0 win away at Sampdoria, so AC Milan have produced some impressive wins in recent times.
Results at home though have been inconsistent and this ultimately contributed to their title bid falling away at the end of last season but they have held the upper hand over Cagliari in previous exchanges, winning four of the last five meetings.
Cagliari were held to a rather disappointing 2-2 draw at home by Spezia in last week’s opening game of their Serie A campaign which made it four league matches without a win for Sunday’s visitors.
Cagliari have drawn three and lost one of these last four games, being involved in stalemates with Fiorentina and AC Milan (away) towards the end of last season, along with losing 1-0 at home to Genoa.
The bigger picture shows that wins in Serie A have been hard to come by from Cagliari’s perspective as the visitors have managed to collect just four wins from their last 14 matches overall in the Italian top flight, although they’re unbeaten in their last four away games.
However, the prospects of an away win here on Sunday do seem slim at best as Cagliari have picked up just three wins out of their last 16 matches on their travels and they also possess a poor record against AC Milan in recent times as well.
With just four clean sheets from these previous 16 away games, Cagliari look to have their work cut out to try and contain AC Milan who have pocked up where they left off at the end of last season.
