Reims face tough task against in-form PSG
    27/08/21 4157

Although they hold supposed home advantage at their Stade Auguste-Delaune II, Sunday evening’s hosts, Reims, face an uphill task of trying to contain their more illustrious opponents, PSG, in this upcoming clash in Ligue 1.

Reims have been more stubborn than inspirational so far in this new French top flight season as the hosts have drawn each of their opening three games of this new campaign, picking up points in stalemates with Nice, Montpellier and Metz respectively.

However, although they’ve more or less held their own so far this term, Reims will face their toughest test yet when they welcome PSG to their Stade Auguste-Delaune II, especially as the hosts have failed to win any of their last 11 matches overall in Ligue 1.

This barren spell of results consist of seven draws and four defeats, with one of the losses being a 4-0 rout by Sunday’s opponents, PSG, back in mid-May of last season, while Reims have also now gone 10 matches without a win at home as well.

Forwards, Donis and Hornby, along with midfielder, Zeneli, are all expected to miss out for Reims through injuries.

PSG currently sit top of Ligue 1 with the maximum nine points haul after their first three games of this new Ligue 1 season, thanks to wins against Troyes, Strasbourg and Brest, scoring a total of 10 goals to date in the process.

PSG have certainly made a statement of intent by winning their opening three matches on the trot on the back of securing the signing of former Barcelona star, Lionel Messi, who is in line to make his debut for the Paris club in this fixture.

The bigger picture shows that PSG are unbeaten in their last 10 matches overall in the domestic top flight and the visitors have also won nine of these 10 games, so they’re expected to assert their authority on this encounter at Reims on Sunday from the outset.

Goalkeeper, Rico, is once again sidelined along with forward, Icardi, while defenders, Ramos, Bernat and Kurzawa will also be absent.

PSG have won the previous three meetings against Reims by at least 2 goals in victories of 4-0, 2-0 and 3-0 respectively and the visitors look set for another triumph this Sunday evening.
