Ferencvarosi and Young Boys BSC played a thrilling Champions League playoff round first leg match in Bern. The fixture finished 3-2 with Young Boys coming from a goal down to win. The match also saw a red card in the first half.

Now, with the teams just one game away from qualifying for the lucrative Champions League group stage, Ferencvarosi host Young Boys in what could be another thrilling encounter. Young Boys have a slender lead. Will David Wagner’s side sit back or go for the kill?

Ferencvarosi started off the first leg the better of the two sides scoring in the 14th minute through Franck Boli. The Swiss champions came back from there with a goal two minutes later from Meschak Elia.

Vincent Sierro added to the lead on 40 minutes and Ulisses Garcia scored just after the hour-mark. With the game nearing full-time, Boli struck again in the 82nd mintue to give Ferencvarosi a lifeline going into the second leg.

Young Boys’ player Silvan Hefti was sent off in the 25th minute and will be absent from the second leg. Despite losing the first leg, Ferencvarosi dominated the game’s stats.

The Hungarians collected 65% possession, 14 shots, and had five hit the target. The Bern-based side collected 11 shots with six hitting the target to go along with 35 %.

Wagner’s side have not been playing well in the Swiss Super League. The team has been serial champions of the Swiss top flight, but that could come to an end this term as FC Zurich have started well. Young Boys game at the weekend was postponed.

The manager could play new signing Yannick Toure, who joined last week from Newcastle United. The 20-year-old signed for Young Boys following his release from Newcastle United in the offseason.

Ferencvarosi did not play at the weekend either. With the club fighting for a place in the Champions League, they have played two fewer domestic games, as the Hungarian league has postponed games to help the side qualify for the group stages once more.

The Hungarians began the Champions League in the first qualifying round defeating Prishthina before going onto eliminate Zalgiris and Slavia Prague.

Young Boys joined the competition in the second qualifying round. They defeated Slovan Bratislava and Cluj to reach the playoff round. Wagner has several doubts for the game as David von Ballmoos, Sandro Lauper, Joel Monteiro, and Jean Pierre Nsame are all fighting to be fit for the game.

The Champions League playoff second leg fixture between Ferencvarosi and Young Boys should be just as exciting as the first leg.

Expect another match to finish with both teams scoring goals and more than 2.5 goals tallied. Young Boys should just edge the Hungarians to claim a win and qualification to the Champions League group stage.
