We have reached the final round of fixtures in Group C of the men’s football tournament at the Olympic Games.

On the 28th of July we have a meeting between Spain and Argentina at the Saitama Stadium 2002 and it is a crucial match for both teams. As things stand going into the game, Spain are top of the group on 4 points, with Argentina in third place on 3 points. Australia are currently in second place on 3 points, with Egypt in fourth place with one point.

Spain come into the match having recorded an important 1-0 victory over Australia in their previous fixture. It seemed as though the game was going to finish without a goal but Mikel Oyarzabal struck in the 81st minute to take maximum points for the Spanish.

It was a much needed win for Spain following their 0-0 draw with Egypt in the opening round of matches. That was a disappointing result, especially given the talent on show for Spain in this competition.

The Spain Olympic team have been struggling to win games for some time and the victory over Australia was their first in 7 attempts. They last played at the Olympic Games in 2012 and failed to win a match. Losing 2 and drawing one of their 3 group games. Spain were also held to a 1-1 draw by Japan in a friendly ahead of the current tournament.

Argentina find themselves in third place in the group going into this match and it is highly likely they are going to have to win the game if they want to progress to the knockout stages of the competition. The 2-0 defeat in their opening fixture against Australia was a hugely disappointing result and has left Argentina with plenty of work to do.

They managed to pick up maximum points in their second group game, beating Egypt 1-0. A goal by Facundo Medina in the 52nd minute was all that separated the teams and Argentina are going to need a better performance if they are to defeat Spain.

The Argentina Olympic team have been winning matches recently and they have recorded victories in 4 of their last 5 matches. There have been under 2.5 goals in each of their last 5 games.

Team news and Spain have plenty of top talent from La Liga at their disposal. Dani Olmo, Mikel Oyarzabal, Marco Asensio, Pedri, Dani Ceballos, Eric García, Pau Torres, and Unai Simón are all experienced, full internationals.

The same cannot be said for the Argentina squad. They have not chosen any of the players who were successful at the recent Copa America, choosing to give other players a chance in this tournament.

There is no doubt Spain have the stronger team and we expect to see them come through to claim the win.

Argentina will make it tough and could score a goal but the Spanish have looked superior in the competition to date and could claim a 2-1 victory to progress.
