Malmo bounced back from their recent 3-2 defeat away from home at 4th placed Norrkoping in the Allsvenskan in midweek when the hosts registered a 1-0 1st leg win at home against Latvian outfit, Riga, in the 1st qualifying round of the Champions League.

Malmo hold home advantage once again on Saturday afternoon at their Eleda Stadion when they return to action in the Allsvenskan where they’ll play host to Sirius with the hosts looking to take over from Djurgarden at the top of the division with all three points.

Prior to that defeat at Norrkoping, Malmo had put together a promising looking run of five matches without defeat in the Swedish top flight which consisted of four wins and a draw and included wins against Varberg, Kalmar, Elfsborg and Orebro.

The former three wins were all registered on home turf where Malmo have actually won four of their opening five matches so far in this season’s Allsvenskan campaign, while the bigger picture shows that Malmo have lost just once at home in their previous 46 games which is an incredible record.

Sirius have made a decent fist of things so far in this season’s Allsvenskan as the visitors currently occupy a mid-table position of 9th place, having won 3, drawn 3 and lost 3 to date this term.

Sirius finished in 10th place at the end of last season’s Allsvenskan campaign and they look destined for another possible mid-table finish this season as they’ve more or less managed to hold their own so far this season, beating the likes of Halmstad, Hacken and Mjallby in the process.

The visitors have also picked up points in draws with Norrkoping, Kalmar and Goteborg as well, but defeats to Hammarby, Elfsborg and Ostersunds suggest that Sirius are unlikely to be challenging for a top half finish in the Allsvenskan.

The bigger picture shows that Sirius have picked up just the three wins from their previous 17 matches overall, while gaining just one win from their last eight matches on their travels, where they’ve failed to score in four of these games and have been beaten by 2 goals or more in four matches as well.

Malmo have won the previous two meetings on the trot against Sirius in convincing fashion, winning 4-0 and 5-2 respectively, and the hosts should be able to cover the asian handicap line again on Saturday afternoon.
