England and Germany will renew their old rivalry in the last 16 of Euro 2020 when they lock horns at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The two nations have an epic history but haven’t faced each other in a competitive match since Germany’s infamous 4-1 victory at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Can the Three Lions gain their revenge this time around? Or will the Germans march on towards the quarter-finals?

Along with Italy, England are one of only two sides that have yet to concede a goal at the European Championship.

Gareth Southgate’s men kept three straight clean sheets in the group stage, although they only managed to score two goals.

After beaten Croatia, England were held to a goalless draw by Scotland before beating the Czech Republic to finish three points clear at the top of Group D.

Having come through the group stage unscathed, the Three Lions head into the knockout phase on nine-game unbeaten streak in all competitions.

Southgate’s side have won eight of their previous nine matches and have also kept eight clean sheets in that time.

Despite achieving five consecutive shutouts, it is worth remembering that England haven’t scored more than one goal in any of their last five outings.

As for Germany, they avoided a late scare on Matchday 3 to qualify from the so-called “group of death” in second place – one point behind France.

Germany were beaten by France before thrashing Portugal 4-2, yet they could only manage a 2-2 draw with Hungary last time out.

Joachim Low’s team may have scored six goals in Group F, but they have also conceded five goals during the tournament.

Let’s not forget that Germany have only won four of their previous nine games in all competitions (two draws, three losses).

It is also worth noting that Low’s men have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last six encounters in all competitions.

Head-to-head: In the four friendlies since the 2010 World Cup, Germany have beaten England twice, while England have claimed one victory (one draw).

Three of the previous four meetings between England and Germany have produced under 1.5 goals, meaning we are set for a tight game on Tuesday.

Team news: England have no injury concerns heading into Tuesday’s clash. Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell could come into the starting XI after having to isolate.

With Mats Hummels and Leon Goretzka passed fit, Germany also have no injury problems heading into the knockout phase.

When you consider England’s recent record at both ends of the pitch, we are destined for a low-scoring encounter at Wembley.

For that reason, Forebet predicts that England will score under 1.5 goals and keep a clean sheet on their way to overcoming Germany.
