New York City will play hosts to New England Revolution at the Yankee Stadium with the Pigeons looking to continue their excellent goalscoring form and put some breathing space between them and the other playoff contenders.

Ahead of the clash, NYCFC are fourth in the Eastern Conference, a point behind third-placed Orlando City.

On the other hand, the Revs are the team to watch in the Eastern league this campaign and now boast five wins from their eight fixtures thus far in the 2021 season, with just the one loss.

During their march to the top, they've netted 11 times and conceded seven, meaning three of their eight games have seen over 2.5 goals.

At the same time, the Boston-based side have managed to bag five goals in their past three games, conceding just one, and it does seem they’re going to be a real threat to this year’s MLS Cup.

Because of this form, the Revs are now third in the overall table, with only the Western Conference sides, Sporting Kansas City and Seattle Sounders, ahead of them this year.

Bruce Arena’s men have been excellent at times this campaign and throughout the 2021 season, the club have seriously improved their attacking output compared to the last.

In the previous game against Cincinnati alone, Arena’s team managed 26 shots, six of which were on target, and 13 corners, as Adam Buksa notched home the winner in the 70th minute.

Furthermore, the New England side have also won three games through 1-0 results this season.

The club’s only defeat this campaign came against Nashville SC, as the Tennessee outfit bagged two in a 2-0 victory where the Revs really looked a distant team from their usual self. As for NYCFC, they have made it into the playoffs in each of the previous five seasons since 2015, with a win over the whole division coming in 2019.

However, if they are toget back towards the top end of the Eastern Conference and conquer the division like they did two years ago, a defeat against the Revs cannot happen, as Philadelphia Union and Orlando City are both in brilliant form at the top, whilst Montreal Impact are just a point behind them also.

However, Ronny Deila's men have been in sensational form at times this season and in front of goal, nobody else is doing it better than them in the Eastern division.

As a result of such attacking intent, NYCFC have racked up 15 corners from their past five games, whilst three of their seven games have seen over 2.5 goals in the MLS this season.

In fact, the club’s 13 goals in the Eastern Conference so far put them ahead of all competitors in their league, with only Sporting Kansas and the Sounders boasting more from the Western side.

The last game for NYCFC witnessed one of the few clashes of the season with a Wester Conference outfit, as they beat Los Angeles FC from behind thanks to a seriously impressive final 20 minutes.

Midfielder, Jesus Medina, cancelled out Corey Baird's opening goal for LAFC, before Ismael Tajouri's second goal of the season snatched all three points for the Pigeons.

Also in the game, Nicolas Acevedo was sent off and now misses this fixture against the Revs.

With the table-topping form of the New England outfit, they are the favourites in this one, however, considering NYCFC are the highest scoring side in the Eastern Conference, they should get a goal and make this a close encounter.
