Fantasy Premier League returns this weekend following the international break, with all 20 teams in action between Saturday and Monday.

The international transfer deadline may have passed, but the domestic window doesn’t close until Friday, October 16. Make sure you keep an eye out for any late deals.

The FPL transfer deadline for Gameweek 5 is 11:00 (BST) on Saturday, October 17, so don’t forget to finalise your selections before the Merseyside derby kicks off.

Let’s start by taking a look at the upcoming fixtures before getting stuck into the top picks for FPL Gameweek 5.

    • Everton vs. Liverpool
    • Chelsea vs. Southampton
    • Manchester City vs. Arsenal
    • Newcastle vs. Manchester United
    • Sheffield United vs. Fulham
    • Crystal Palace vs. Brighton
    • Tottenham vs. West Ham
    • Leicester vs. Aston Villa
    • West Brom vs. Burnley
    • Leeds vs. Wolves

The Merseyside derby obviously takes centre stage in the Premier League this weekend, although there are plenty of other exciting matchups to look forward to.

Along with Everton, Aston Villa will be aiming to maintain their 100% record this term when they visit Leicester. Villa have kept two clean sheets this season, while the Foxes are the joint-top scorers.

Sheffield United, Burnley and Fulham are still yet to pick up a point, with the former only managing to score one goal in their opening four games.

    Goalkeepers

Emi Martinez (Aston Villa) remains the highest-scoring goalkeeper, having kept two clean sheets and saved a penalty in the opening three games this season.

With low-scoring Fulham heading to Bramall Lane this weekend, Cottagers ‘keeper Alphonse Areola could be in line for his first clean sheet of the campaign.

Burnley have also struggled to hit the target this term, so Sam Johnstone (West Brom) will be confident of keeping his first shutout when Sean Dyche’s side visit the Hawthorns.

None of the so-called “Big Six” have impressed defensively so far this season, so it could be worth steering clear of some of the most expensive goalkeepers in the game this week.

    Defenders

Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa) have both been immense this term, despite conceding a couple of goals in Villa’s remarkable 7-2 crushing of Liverpool.

Leicester full-backs Timothy Castagne and James Justin have also impressed, with Castagne notching up one goal and two assists and Justin contributing one goal and one assist.

Liverpool and Man Utd will both be looking to keep things tight at the back following heavy defeats, so we could see Klopp and Solskjaer’s defenders pick up points this weekend.

    Midfielders

It is difficult to ignore Son Heung-min (Tottenham) and Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) at the top of the leaderboard. Jack Grealish (Aston Villa) and James Rodriguez (Everton) have also scored big.

With so many penalties being given, Jorginho (Chelsea) looks like a sensible pick at the moment. Mateusz Klich takes the spot-kicks for Leeds, and the Poland international is relatively cheap.

Following a slow start to the campaign, it is surely only a matter of time before Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) kicks into gear. Guardiola’s side face an unpredictable Arsenal team on Saturday.

Solly March (Brighton), Neto (Wolves) and Cheikhou Kouyate (Crystal Palace) have all started the season brightly and are all valued at 5.5 or under.

    Forwards

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton) may be joint-top goalscorer with Son, but it is Tottenham’s Harry Kane – 3 goals, 6 assists – who is the highest-scoring FPL forward this term.

Fresh from scoring for England last week, Danny Ings (Southampton) will be brimming with confidence. Ings already has three goals in four league games this season and faces Chelsea’s leaky defence next.

Newcastle’s Callum Wilson – 4 goals, 1 assist – will no doubt be licking his lips at the prospect of facing at Man Utd backline that conceded six goals against Spurs before the international break.

Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa) scored a hat-trick against Liverpool on Matchday 4, and he comes up against a Leicester side that let in three goals against West Ham last time out.
