Following a string of midweek EFL Cup ties, FPL managers can now turn their attention to the weekend’s Premier League action, with Gameweek 4 on the horizon.

Matchday 3 dished up plenty of surprises. Chelsea came from 3-0 down to rescue a draw with West Brom, Leicester thrashed Man City 5-2 and Man Utd got extremely lucky against Brighton.

Before we get into the top FPL picks for Gameweek 4, let’s take a look at the upcoming fixtures.

    • Chelsea vs. Crystal Palace
    • Everton vs. Brighton
    • Leeds vs. Manchester City
    • Newcastle vs. Burnley
    • Leicester vs. West Ham
    • Southampton vs. West Brom
    • Wolves vs. Fulham
    • Arsenal vs. Sheffield United
    • Manchester United vs. Tottenham
    • Aston Villa vs. Liverpool

Everton, Leicester and Liverpool will all be confident of maintaining their 100% records against Brighton, West Ham and Aston Villa respectively.

Fulham, Sheff Utd and Burnley are all yet to pick up a point this season, so Wolves have an excellent chance to end their two-game losing streak when they visit Craven Cottage.

Leeds and Villa both head into Matchday 4 on the back of consecutive victories, with Man Utd and Man City both taking three points from their opening two games.

    Goalkeepers

Emiliano Martinez (Aston Villa) is the only goalkeeper yet to conceded a goal this term. The Argentine has kept back-to-back clean sheets, although preventing Liverpool from scoring won’t be easy.

Sheff Utd have failed to score in each of their three games this term. With Arsenal visiting Bramall Lane this weekend, Bernd Leno could prove to be a decent selection.

Southampton and Fulham are also struggling for goals, so Sam Johnstone (West Brom) and Rui Patricio (Wolves) could both be in line to pick up a clean sheet.

    Defenders

Timothy Castagne (Leicester) is the highest scoring defender so far. The Foxes’ new signing has already racked up a goal, two assists and a clean sheet this season. Leicester have a favorable fixture against West Ham this weekend.

Andrew Robertson is the highest scoring Liverpool defender at the moment, although Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold aren’t too far behind. Villa have started the season brightly, but the defending champions could easily put an end to that.

Romain Saiss and Conor Coady (Wolves) are sensible options, with struggling Fulham heading to Molineux. Sheff Utd haven’t hit the target this term, so it could be worth considering Hector Bellerin and/or Rob Holding (Arsenal).

    Midfielders

With Son (Tottenham) out injured, a lot of FPL managers will have a dilemma on their hands. Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane make up the top three highest scoring midfielders, but they are both pricy picks.

If you’re looking for better value, Jarrod Bowen (West Ham) bagged a brace against Wolves last time out, Jeff Hendrick (Newcastle) has notched up a goal and an assist, while Leicester’s Harvey Barnes and Dennis Praet both have a goal and an assist to their name.

Matheus Pereira shone in West Brom’s draw with Chelsea last time out. The Brazilian already has a goal and two assists under his belt. The Baggies host struggling Southampton this weekend, so Pereira could well add to his tally.

    Forwards

With five goals in three games, it’s hardly surprising that Jamie Vardy (Leicester) sits at the top of the forward’s leaderboard, but let’s not forget that Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton) has also netted five league goals this term.

Patrick Bamford (Leeds) has also hit the ground running this season, with three goals and two assists in his first three appearances.

Having scored three goals in three games, Neal Maupay (Brighton) is an excellent value pick. I could also be worth looking at Danny Ings (Southampton), as Saints host West Brom, who have the worst defensive record in the division.
